Hinterland Feijoas
Browns Rd | Belli Park | QLD
One of the key drivers for me embarking on Fringe & Fodder was to make more time to venture out of Brisbane. I did that recently visiting a place in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, called Hinterland Feijoas.
I spent an hour or two wandering the property, a farm shop, gallery and retro food van called ‘Myrtle’, all situated against the most breathtaking rural backdrop. At the very heart of all these happenings, is the farming of a South American fruit called the feijoa, that despite having travelled in South America, was a fruit I'd never heard of. The little green feijoa certainly sounds to be a very versatile little fruit. Appropriate for baking, conserves, confectionery, wine; and even used in perfumes.
All of the modern country fare at Hinterland Feijoas are made onsite by the owner, and served from ‘Myrtle’, with ingredients and products (including the tea and coffee) proudly sourced from local producers. Of course the feijoa featuring once or twice on the menu.
The farm shop stocks a large range of feijoa gourmet products, all handmade, small-batch and gluten and preservative free. Also in stock were some gorgeous ceramic-ware and gift ideas all handmade and sourced locally.
Only 15 minutes from Eumundi, Hinterland Feijoas strikes me as being the perfect place to call into while you are on the Sunshine Coast. If not for a bite to eat and a cuppa or a lazy coffee, then for some good old-fashioned country hospitality by the owners, and a dose of that absolutely beautiful countryside.
Hinterland Feijoas is open on Saturdays 9am to 3pm.
