Lavandula
Hepburn-Newstead Rd | Shepherds Flat | VIC
Lavandula, is well and truly being written about retrospectively here. Up until recent times it has been a favourite destination that has certainly been on the list during my seemingly annual escape to the Daylesford and Hepburn Springs region, outside of Melbourne.
I’m currently in planning mode again in preparation for a weekend away, and as I revisit old photos, I think this beautiful spa-country region in Victoria might be on the cards. That would certainly mean a trip out to Lavandula, a gorgeous Swiss themed lavender farm complete with its sprawling, blooming lavender fields (subject to season), gardens, onsite gift shop, and cafe.
Aside from the different seasonal activities held on the property at Lavandula, providing something new each time you visit, there is one thing that always remains the same for me, no matter the season and that is its ability to provide the perfect place to meet with friends in the most relaxing, picturesque of country settings. This can be done either by making use of the onsite cafe, or simply just setting out a picnic rug under one of the many trees.
The onsite cafe makes their scones, biscuits, cakes and preserves onsite, and from scratch with the menu hinting at the use of the lavender harvested from the farm. The lavender scones in the past have gone perfectly with a hot cup of tea under the grand old ash trees in the alfresco dining area while the hours get chatted away. Other meals and snacks available from the cafe are flavoured by what is in season in their onsite vegetable and herb garden.
Lavandula is definitely a day trip option if you live in Melbourne, though I’d recommend making a weekend of it in a region renowned for its spas, exquisite food, and local markets. I think I might start looking at flights right now!
Lavandula is open 7 days.
