Rafter and Rose
Ellenborough St | Ipswich | QLD
I admit, I haven’t spent much time in Ipswich during my time living in Brisbane, but I think that is about to change after my recent visit to Rafter and Rose. A gorgeously quaint cafe complete with its own leafy laneway, housed in one of Ipswich’s grand historic buildings.
The family owned and run cafe prides itself on making all of their delicious home-style fare onsite, sourcing their ingredients ethically and locally wherever possible. In fact I came across organic local produce for sale from their very front counter, with condiments and conserves also made and sold onsite.
Aside from the delicious food and coffee on offer in an atmosphere that has a warmness much like home, the core of Rafter and Rose is clearly all about family. Be prepared to be welcomed as one of their own, as soon as you step inside.
I would be amiss not to mention the decor also, I loved the personal touches of one wall in particular, where I’m told something will be brought back after each holiday and placed on a shelf. An eclectic mix of jars of sand, feathers, coconuts, shells, books; only broken occasionally by the odd bit of greenery. Everything perfectly arranged, so that your eyes keep following the melting pot of memories.
If you’re much like me and haven’t had an excuse to venture out to Ipswich, now you just might have one. As you take in some of the gorgeous architecture heading through town, you’ll then be met with some truly delicious food and coffee, and some lush surrounds. I also hear there is an 80’s inspired party happening in January to celebrate the cafe’s third year. Might want to mark your calendars now, sounds like fun!
Rafter and Rose is open Monday to Friday 6.30am to 2pm, Saturday and Sunday 7am to 12pm.
