Wild Canary
Moggill Rd | Brookfield | QLD
As you have probably guessed from my Instagram page, I don't mind Wild Canary for a good meal. Nestled in the greenery behind the Brookfield Garden Centre, for me it’s like getting out of my car and arriving in what probably is my version of Utopia. A short stroll through the Brookfield Garden Centre, to then reach a place where I can close my eyes, put my finger on anything on the menu and not be disappointed.
The 2 main things that make the Wild Canary experience for me is the staff who live and breathe their craft (particularly the head chef) and the resulting menu that is thoughtfully put together using quality seasonal ingredients and produce either from the onsite kitchen garden, or from handpicked local suppliers.
The results are fresh, delicious well thought out meals, that are even sometimes a little out of the box but always work nevertheless. They are a culinary education and I usually come away with a local product that I want to look further into. During my recent trip I was introduced to the world of camel milk products. An interesting alternative to dairy. I sampled the ice cream and it was good, definitely something I'll look to again in the summer months.
Aside from the dining experience I find myself admiring some of the art lining the walls of the restaurant. Wild Canary regularly exhibits work from local artists, I’m told there is a new exhibit roughly every 4 to 6 weeks. I also took a quick look at the condiments and conserves (all made onsite) that are for sale and also feature on the menu. All made with locally sourced or on-site ingredients, of course.
If you’re a nature-lover looking for a dining experience where the emphasis is on fresh, seasonal and local ingredients all the while delivered against a gorgeous lush, green backdrop. Wild Canary will more than likely be somewhere that you'll enjoy. Check it out and let me know what you think.
Wild Canary is open 7 days.
