Lisa and Candy
Rafter and Rose | Ipswich | QLD
I met Candy and Lisa recently, two sisters making up part of the all-family team at Rafter and Rose. It became clear during my visit there, that each member has their own specialty area in the running of this thriving, family-centric cafe in Ipswich. I’d only been there a short while when I could see what Candy’s and Lisa’s contribution was.
I’ll start with Lisa, the lovely lady on the left with those piercing blue eyes, who is resident interior stylist at Rafter and Rose. The decor both inside the cafe, and adjoining leafy laneway is curated by Lisa. Pieces acquired during trips away, some items holding sentimental value with their backgrounds adding to the warmth and charm of the cafe. I hear there have been items sold off the floor such is their appeal. I was eyeing off an antique ornamental birdcage during my visit, I had to remain strong though, my mission was photos and food. Perhaps another time!
Now to Candy, one of the visionaries of this little cafe. After working many years in the hospitality industry, she saw the potential along with her niece (Lisa’s daughter), offered by the space and adjoining laneway in this heritage listed building. Three years down the track and Candy’s love of baking has contributed to making Rafter and Rose a hub that it has become for Ipswich’s food scene, with the cafe now renowned for its scrumptious baked goods, all made on site.
If you haven’t already had a chance to check out my post in the ‘Food’ section here on the website covering my visit to Rafter and Rose, head over there now and take a look. You’ll see what I mean about the charming interior and scrumptious baked goods.
