Red Cow Farm Garden

It felt like the odds were against me during a recent trip to Red Cow Farm Garden. The weather was threatening, I’d forgotten my camera, and my mobile phone battery died. That wasn’t enough though, to spoil the enchantment of walking through the maze of garden rooms (20 to be exact!) on this beautiful 2.5 hectare property.

An escape to the Southern Highlands during cooler weather is just not complete without a wander around a manicured cool-climate garden such as Red Cow Farm. Even though we were there on the tail end of its season, it was not hard to see why this garden has been described as one of the best in the world of its type.

The garden rooms range from the formal and manicured, to the more relaxed, wild and unstructured.  No cows to be seen…..just glorious gardens that include rare perennial plants, a bog garden,  lake, cottage garden and a kitchen-garden.

If you are a Sydney-sider looking for an escape from the bustle, this place is a perfect day trip option for a foliage-fix. Being only around 1.5 hours outside of Sydney, the morning can be spent wandering the greenery, with a lunch to then follow in the quaint little town of Berrima. For us northerners, there may be a little more planning involved, but then that is half the fun.

Red Cow Farm Garden is open September to late May.
